Pre-Grade R

& Grade R

At Pro Act drama classes in the Western Cape, the Pre-grade R - Grade R learners are encouraged to grow in confidence by exploring rhythms and spatial awareness.

The drama academy will teach your child to communicate ideas with clarity, audibility, expression and spontaneity by speaking in full sentences and using correct tenses. They will also learn to express face, body and voice with animation. Various tools such as role play, poetry, mime, creative movement, improvisation and characterisation are used.

Confident children are more likely to have good social and interactive skills and they are able to work well in a team. These are all skills that are vital from pre- primary to high school and it is important that they have a good foundation from an early age. At the end of each year parents are invited to an open class where we will showcase our class structure and activities.

Grades 1 - 2

The confident child who can communicate effectively will find it easier to think out of the box, socialise with adults and other children and take on new challenges.

Learners are encouraged to use their imaginations and develop individual characters with face, voice and body, reacting to various stimuli in character. Speech and communication skills are also developed which assist with orals and public speaking.

Skits, mime, poetry, storytelling, dramatic movement, theatre games and improvisation are some of the tools used. Towards the end of the year, Pro-Act showcases the skills acquired throughout the year for parents and friends in a choral verse or short play.

Grades 3 - 7

Because so many children have access to cell phones these days, it essential that they are able to communicate physically and verbally instead of hiding behind their phones. In the speech and drama classes learners build on public speaking skills, creating skits in larger groups and developing realistic and believable characters with face, voice and body.

Spontaneous, animated reactions to given stimuli are important and improvisation skills are developed.

Towards the end of the year, parents and friends are invited to watch a scripted showcase. Scripted work teaches children discipline and focus from a young age. Here they are also taught the responsibility of working towards a goal and staying focused until the end product. This is an essential skill which learners will use regularly throughout school and when they eventually join the working world.
